Linda Thornton

Linda has over thirty five years experience in education and childcare as childminder, playgroup leader, headteacher, adviser and lead officer for early years.

She is passionate about developing children's thinking and learning, valuing creative learning environments and encouraging educators to think about the 'why' as well as the 'how' in their approach to teaching. Throughout her career she has been involved in the planning and delivery of training at local, regional and national level. Target audiences have included parents, governors, community groups, fellow professionals in education and childcare and multi agency teams in children's services and local Sure Start programmes.

Linda provides consultancy and training for local authorities across the UK and has been the recipient of a grant from the Royal Society for the delivery of a family learning programme aimed at parents, grandparents and carers of children 0 to 5.

Linda has participated in three U.K. Study Tours to Reggio Emilia to date, attended the Crossing Boundaries international conference in Reggio in February 2004 and teh opening of the Loris Malaguzzi Centre in 2006. She maintains active links with colleagues in Reggio Children.

In 1999/2000 Linda was a member of the national steering group which organised the U.K. tour of the 100 Languages Exhibition and was involved in the planning and organisation of the exhibition in Exeter in Spring 2000.

This led to her involvement in the design of the Reflections on Learning range of furniture and equipment and participation in the professional development programme which accompanied the 2004 Hundred Languages tour in the UK.

Linda is the co-author of the newsletter Early Years Update for Optimus Publishing and of Understanding the Reggio Approach, Bringing the Reggio Approach to your early years practice, Science Matters, Early Years Handbook, Healthy Living in the Early Years, Science in the early years and several publications for Featherstone Education.
